Stone Bridge

Made of stone cuts. On the stone cuts mounted in the balustrade, there is a Latin inscription commemorating the bridge origins and the crest of Kalisz.

The bridge was built on the Prosna River in 1824 and officially called „The Bridge of Tzar Alexander 1st.” However the Kalisz citizens, manifesting dislike of the conqueror, called a new crossing of the river the Stone Bridge. This name caught on. Its construction is supported by 104 oak piles hammered in the bottom of the river. The stone-cast iron balustrade is decorated the crest of Kalisz and a plaque.
